Gay Men’s Groups
Group Description: Liberation Psychotherapy facilitates two different weekly groups for gay men who are seeking connection and a sense of belonging within the gay community.
Who: Adult gay men who live in the NYC area.
What: A gay men’s group that provides mutual aid, social support, and psychoeducation centering on a number of critical topics in the gay community.
Where: 116 West 23rd Street, Floor 5, New York, NY 10011
When: Mondays from 7:00pm-8:30pm; Wednesdays from 7:00pm-8:30pm
Why: Gay men have limited places where they can come together collectively and in solidarity to address topics such as sexual identity, trauma, socialization, dating, love, intimacy, vulnerability, work/life balance, while feeling heard and able to express themselves authentically without fear.
How: As a group, we will explore the thoughts and feelings that come up within our community and how we have and continue to navigate obstacles, challenges, adversities, and possibilities.
Poz Empowerment
Group Description: Liberation Psychotherapy facilitates a weekly group for HIV+ gay men who contend with stigma, oppression, and trauma. The intention of the group is to explore life experiences and to help foster social connection and a sense of belonging within the LGBTQ+ and heterosexual communities.
Who: HIV+ gay men (both newly diagnosed and veterans) who live in the NYC area and are willing to share their experiences around HIV status
What: To provide a safe and secure environment through shared experiences, social support, and discuss related issues that emerge among HIV+ gay men. The group facilitator’s primary goal is to create a positive environment where group members can explore and connect.
Where: 116 West 23rd Street, Floor 5, New York, NY 10011
When: Wednesdays from 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Why: HIV+ gay men deserve a platform to openly express their resilience to overcoming multiple traumas
How: The group will explore using talk therapy and other psychotherapeutic modalities how they navigate the life experience of being both gay and HIV+. Topics will include physical and mental health, relationships, sex and sexuality, intimacy, disclosure & consent, the stigma that comes with HIV+ status, and topics that group members want to address.
